Franz Kamlander
12.7.1920 – 23.10.1999Franz Kamlander came from a farm west of Vienna, where he worked with his family and developed a close relationship with the animals. In his nearly 20-year career as an artist in Gugging, he created an incredible abundance of images of animals, among which he was particularly fond of cows. Kamlander often created a little cow each day, with each one done in different colors. The two exhibited works on canvas present his typical, reduced color palette and his characteristic stylized, three-line signature. The direct juxtaposition of the identically sized canvases clearly illustrates that his images of animals always possess an individual note – a soul transferred from the artist to the depicted creature.
