Helmut Hladisch

*26.06.1961

Like the work of most of his colleagues, Helmut Hladisch’s delicate drawings in pencil and colored pencil fit firmly within the spectrum of Art Brut. Hladisch first uses contour lines to form shapes that he fills in with short, close-set strokes. While his works are very diverse thematically, his images almost always focus on a single object. Disconnected from any spatial context, their subject matter – for example a Vine Tomato – is presented before the white ground of the paper. Since Hladisch moved into the “House of Artists” in 2013, recurring motifs can be identified in his work, such as the Cup, with depictions of trees occupying a special place in his oeuvre.

Along with his small-format drawings, the artist also produces larger works in acrylic on canvas; his most extensive work, carried out as a fresco secco in acrylic, can be found on the exterior wall of the “House of Artists”.
